아메리칸 항공 297편, 에어드랍으로 받은 항공기 폭탄 테러 협박, 비상착륙, 관제 용어

 

 2022년 9월 28일, American Airlines Airbus A321neo (N439AN), LA국제공항을 이륙하여 호놀룰루 국제공항으로 향하던 AAL297편은 승객들이 에어드랍으로 항공기 폭탄 테러 위협을 받아 기내 위협 수준 3을 선포하고 출발 공항인 LAX으로 귀환을 요청했다.

 

AAL297 : Los Angeles, American 297, request.

ATC에게 요청할 사항이 있을 때 Request라고 합니다.

 요청사항의 예시 : Deviation due to weather(구름이나 태풍과 같은 날씨를 피하기 위해 항로 이탈 요청), engine warning indication(엔진 경고등), medical emergency(의료 지원이 필요한 응급상황) 등.

Center : American 297, go ahead.

AAL297 : We're gonna need to coordinate to go back to Los Angeles. (우리는 LA로 돌아가야 할 것 같습니다)

Center : American 297, roger, say the reason? (아메리칸 297, 알겠습니다. 이유를 알 수 있을까요?)

Say the reason : 정기 항공편이 출발지로 돌아가야 하는 상황처럼 비정상적인 경우에 ATC는 항공기에 도움을 줄 수 있도록 적절한 판단하기 위해 이유를 확인합니다. 

Medical emergency의 경우라면 응급 구급차를 준비시키고, Engine fire나 비정상착륙을 시도해야 한다면 소방차를, 테러 위협의 경우라면 경찰과 특수요원들을 준비하는 등 항공기를 어시스트하기 위한 노력을 합니다.

Levels of Threat
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has defined a four tier threat level hierarchy. Although all National Aviation Authorities (NAA) do not follow these specific definitions, they provide valuable guidance to operators in determining the seriousness of an unruly passenger incident and in developing their policies on appropriate level of response. The ICAO level of threat specifics are as follows:

Level 1 — Disruptive behavior (verbal);
   - Behavior that interferes with the comfort of fellow passengers, or interferes with the duties of crew.
   - examples: Insulting language, drunk, refusal to comply with crew instructions, use of mobile phones, smoking 
Level 2 — Physically abusive behavior;
   - Involves violence against staff, other passengers and damage
   - examples: damage to company/passenger property, sexual molestation
Level 3 — Life-threatening behavior (or display of a weapon);
   - Behavior on board involving serious violence which might result in severe or fatal injuries
   - examples: hijack aircraft
Level 4 — Attempted or actual breach of the flight crew compartment (refer to cockpit)
   - any attempt to breach airline security by accessing the flight deck

AAL297 : Multiple passengers on board have received an AirDrop. "I'm going to bomb this plane". And we concurred with dispatch, we're returning back to Los Angeles. (다수의 승객들이 에어드랍으로 "이 항공기를 폭파시킬 것이다"라는 위협을 받았습니다. 항공사 디스패처와 상의해서 LA로 돌아가는 것으로 의견을 조율했습니다.)

AAL297 : We haven't been advised of that. Multiple passengers have received a threatening text that there is... uh.. uh.. bomb threat against the aircraft. (그건 아직 전해 듣지 못했습니다. 다수의 승객들이 항공기에 폭탄 위협 문자를 받았습니다.)

SoCal Approach : American 297, roger.

AAL297 : SoCal, American 297, 9000 descending to 7000.

Pilot discretion : Pilot의 판단하에 비행하도록 하는 Instruction(지시)

Ex) Pilot discretion, descend and maintain 7000 : 파일럿의 판단하에 7000으로 하강하세요.
  -> Pilot discretion 이란 지시가 없다면, 즉시 하강을 시작하여야 하지만, Pilot discretion 지시가 있다면, 조종사가 원하는 시기에 하강을 시작할 수 있다

AAL297 : Roger, let's see, turning to 7000, speed is our discretion. And let's make sure we have aircraft... airport safety vehicles available. It's gonna be an overweight landing. (알겠습니다. 7000피트로 하강하고, 항공기 속도는 파일럿 재량, 그리고 항공기가 착륙 중량 허용치 초과이기 때문에 안전 차량(소방차와 같은)을 요청합니다.)
